Austin is an assistant professor of accounting at the Leeds School of Business, ºÚÁϳԹÏ. HeÌýaims to study relevant, real-world financial market phenomena with an emphasis on the creation and use of financial information by everyday people. His research projects examine how individuals interact with financial market information in various settings such as mobile phone trading apps, generative AI, fake financial news, ESG portfolio concerns, politics, and sports gambling markets, among others. He regularly partners with companies, such as Quartr and Streetbeat, to help them understand user behaviors and produce original academic research.

Austin’s work on the irrelevance of ESG disclosures to retail investors, published inÌýManagement Science, was cited by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in their climate-related disclosures rule. He has also made guest appearances on podcasts and Youtube channels to discuss the changing landscape of retail investing.

Austin currently teaches the introductory managerial accounting course (BCOR 2303) at Leeds, co-receiving the inaugural Center for Ethics and Social Responsibility Climate Curriculum award. He earned accounting and finance B.B.A. degrees as well as an accounting Ph.D. degree from the University of Iowa.
