Alcohol
To get the process started on serving alcohol at your event, contact our Campus Alcohol Agent at 303-492-3269 ´Ç°ùÌýcampusalcoholagent@colorado.edu. All requests for an event with alcohol must be submitted 10 days prior to the event unless the event requires a Special Event Permit (SEP). See our Events with Alcohol page for more information.
Campus Use of University Facilities (CUUF) Procedures
Canvassing is any activity that communicates a non-commercial message, including carrying a sign, soliciting a signature for a petition or distributing non-commercial literature. Any form of in person protest would fall under the definition of Canvassing.
Protesting is considered a form of Canvassing. Under the CUUF procedures, publicly accessible Outdoor Spaces constitute a Student Forum so students may engage in unscheduled Canvassing on sidewalks and in other outdoor areas not otherwise scheduled for an event as long as students stay at least 25 feet from building entrances and from area scheduled for events. Further details can be found in the CUUF procedures.
Students interested in engaging in Canvassing inside Facilities, including in any public spaces inside Facilities, must request in advance and receive prior approval for an Event. Students may not use tables, displays, Temporary Structures, permanent structures or framework, nor may they leave unattended literature. Amplified sound is only permitted at Dalton Trumbo Fountain during specific hours unless prior approval is obtained. Please note that, depending on location, Canvassing by non-students requires prior approval.

UMC Dalton Trumbo Fountain Court area as follows, except during the last day of classes and through the last day of exams or if another Event has been scheduled at that location:
- Noon to 1 p.m. weekdays
- 5-11 p.m. Fridays
- 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays
Amplified sound or music is prohibited in the restricted sound areas except during evening and weekend hours with prior approval. Amplified sound is generally prohibited inside Facilities unless requested and approved in advance as part of an event.
Generally sound whose volume is increased by any electric, electronic, mechanical, motor-powered or other nonhuman means. Examples include bullhorn, percussion instruments, amplified or acoustic instruments, microphone, megaphone, amps, speakers, etc. Events or Activities approved for use of amplified sound may not exceed 80 decibels at the perimeter of the event space.
Camping is prohibited.Ìý Under the CUUF procedures, Camping includes activities that reasonably appear that an Outdoor Space is being used for temporary living accommodation purposes. As part of a scheduled and approved Event, canopies used for protection from sun or Event tents used to hold activities as part of an Event may be authorized depending on the intended use and style of tent. All structures requested as part of an event should described in detail during the event approval process.
Please note that the City of Boulder has its own , which apply to City property. Citations for camping may be issued based on violations of the City code, or the CUUF policy.Ìý
Chalking may be used only to promote University programs or Student Activities with the following requirements:
- The Chalking must indicate the University Department or currently recognized Student Organization responsible for the Chalking
- Chalking may not be used to promote organizations, activities or events not affiliated with the University nor for advertising or other promotion.
- Chalking may only occur in Outdoor Spaces on concrete or asphalt horizontal surfaces exposed to natural elements at least 10 feet away from any building entrance.
- No chalking may occur on benches or inside any Facility.
- Only water-soluble stick chalk that quickly fades with the natural elements in a few days may be used.
- Additional restrictions on chalking may exist in patio and plaza spaces associated with buildings like the UMC, Rec Center, residence halls, etc. Students and staff can inquire with specific building proctors for more details.
Posters or Fliers may be hung on Ekeley kiosk. Any postings on the kiosk will be removed weekly. Other than Ekeley kiosk all posters must be pre-approved and only hung in specifically authorized locations.
- Any posters, Signs, Banners or Fliers posted in Outdoor Spaces must be approved in advance through the Event and Activities Guidelines Process.
- Any posters, Signs, Banners or Fliers posted inside or attached to the exterior of a Facility must be approved in advance by the building proctor and must comply with the building guidelines.
Food trucks are prohibited on main campus in compliance with the Third Party Food Service Providers Policy.
Any use of Motorized Off-Road Vehicles must be registered with Parking and Transportation Services in advance and have a University-issued sign or placard. All drivers must successfully complete the University’s Defensive Driving training and must comply with all other requirements outlined in the CUUF procedures.Ìý
